The Count's Lament and Tarantella is a solo for Bb Trumpet with band accompaniment. This solo comes from the trumpet collection Scenes from the Cape. The band arrangement was commissioned by the Shadow Ridge Honor Winds and their directors, Chris Meredith and Alicia DeSoto in Flower Mound, Texas for the band's 2018 Midwest Clinic performance in Chicago, Illinois.

Description:  This work is dedicated to Marty’s brother, Jerry Nelson, who was a musician and puppeteer with the Muppets. The Count's Lament and Tarantella was inspired by Jerry’s character, Count Von Count.  The solo begins with a somewhat mournful but jazzy theme, which gives way to a fast dance with a lot of finger technique.  The Count's Lament and Tarantella also features a cadenza. Range is a factor as there is one brief high A.  This should be fun for the advanced student to play.
